Must buys when shopping in Cumbria

  1. Lakes Distillery Gin

Are you a gin fan? Take a tour around The Lakes Distillery and don’t forget to pick up a bottle of their gin whilst you are there. They use local juniper and other classic gin botanicals native to The Lake District including bilberry and meadowssweet.


  1. Grasmere Gingerbread

Sarah Nelson’s Gingerbread is famous all over the world for its unique, spicy-sweet cross between a biscuit and cake. Sarah Nelson’s former home is today the Grasmere Gingerbread Shop where you will be greeted by staff in traditional Victorian dress.


  1. Anything from the Herdy shop

We can’t decide which item we like best from the Herdy shop – there are too many great items to choose from! You can browse the selection from there Grasmere store just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel.


  1. Kendal Mint Cake

Romney’s Kendal Mint Cake is often used by cyclists, fell runners and walkers as an energy snack. Kendal Mint Cake has become synonymous with The Lakes, don’t forget to pick yours up before you leave!


  1. Wainwright Guide

“Wainwright’s Guides” had become a must for holidaymakers planning their Lake District walking routes. These pictorial guides to the Lakeland Fells are used by keen walkers and amateurs alike. You can purchase these from the Kiosk in reception. 


  1. Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding

Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding was first produced over 20 years ago in the Cartmel Village shop, where it is sold today. This gorgeous handmade pudding should definitely be on your ‘must buy’ list!


  1. Lake District Ales

The Lake District has the highest concentration of small breweries anywhere in Britain. Some of favourites include Unsworth’s Yard Brewery, Barngates Brewery, Coniston Brewing Co and Hawkshead Brewery. Unsworths Yard in Cartmel has a great selection of ales that you can take away with you - our favourite is the Crusader Gold!

  1. Kin Toffee Vodka

Inspired by the Lake District surroundings, Kin smooth blended vodka has rich caramel tones and a subtle kick produced right here in the heart of The Lakes.

  9.  Hawkshead Relish Company

The Hawkshead Relish Company is an artisan producer of award winning preserves based in Hawkshead village. You can purchase these gorgeous chutneys from their shop which nestles in a gorgeous 16th century Lakeland building. We have a fantastic selection of products from the Hawkshead Relish Company available to purchase from our Kiosk in reception.
